Nexsan UNITY6000 Hybrid Storage Pricing

Excerpt from Nexsan Press Release

Nexsan™, a global leader in unified storage solutions, today announced that Nexsan UNITY6000 Hybrid Storage has scored an “Excellent” ranking in the recent DCIG 2016-17 Unified Utility Storage Array Buyer’s Guide. Using an eight-step process to rank its tested products, the DCIG Buyer’s Guide provides an objective, third-party evaluation of unified utility storage arrays that evaluates features from an end user’s viewpoint.

According to the DCIG research, price points for unified utility storage arrays are making it more practical for organizations to keep more data for longer periods of time, even while lowering overall costs and management overhead. The report evaluated unified utility storage arrays from eight vendors that offer arrays for a dollar per gigabyte or less, scaled to at least 75TB of raw capacity and minimally support at least one block protocol (iSCSI and/or Fibre Channel) and one file protocol (CIFS/SMB and /or NFS).

Based on the DCIG product evaluation, Nexsan UNITY6000 offers a price per TB of $390, a max raw storage of 5,040TB and supports two block protocols and five NAS protocols. These specifications and more earned UNITY6000 an “Excellent” rating.

UNITY delivers a full enterprise-class feature set for customers. Nexsan’s FASTier™ caching accelerates performance to meet demanding I/O requirements. This unified platform supports Fibre Channel and iSCSI connectivity in addition to NAS and SAN protocols. Unified HDD and SDD support can be tailored for the best, mixed application deployment environment. For organizations facing extreme data growth or needing greater application performance, the Nexsan UNITY family scales from 13TB up to 5PB. Nexsan UNITY matches flexible, performance datacenter storage with the private cloud technology behind Nexsan’s Transporter family of private cloud file sync and share appliances.

Rackspace Cloud Storage Pricing

Rackspace Cloud Files Pricing

Rackspace Cloud Files provides online object storage for files and media, delivering them globally at blazing speeds over a worldwide content delivery network (CDN). You can store as many files as you want—even very large files.

Rackspace pricing below the 1PB/1024TB threshold starts at $0.075/GB per month when you buy over 500TB of storage; prices increase slightly if you need less storage.

Rackspace Cloud Files Service Claims

Reliable – Cloud Files maintains three copies of each file, so your users get files faster and more reliably. Availability is important to you, so our SLA guarantees it.

Google Cloud Storage Pricing

Google Cloud Storage Pricing

Google Cloud Storage is a RESTful online file storage web service for storing and accessing data on Google’s infrastructure. The service combines the performance and scalability of Google’s cloud with advanced security and sharing capabilities. It is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), comparable to Amazon S3 online storage service.

Prices are competitive, as you would expect, with 4,500TB costing $0.054/GB per month. You’ll need to get a quote from Google if you intend to buy more than that. Durable Reduced Availability, like Amazon’s Reduced Redundancy Storage, is a little cheaper at $0.042/GB per month.

Google Storage Objects affect pricing

Objects stored in Google Cloud Storage are grouped into buckets. Buckets are containers within the cloud that can be assigned to storage classes individually. Google Cloud Storage offers three storage classes with varying latency and price: Standard, Durable Reduced Availability (DRA) and Nearline.

Standard storage class has the highest performance and availability of the three tiers and is best used for frequently-accessed data that requires low latency. It is priced at .026 cents per gigabyte per month.

DRA storage class has a higher latency and lower availability than the Standard option, at a lower price. It is most often used for objects that are able to experience some unavailability, such as certain types of backup. DRA storage is priced at .02 cents per gigabyte per month.

Nearline storage class has the highest latency of the three options, at the lowest price. According to Google, it is best used as a backup for disaster recovery, with data that is accessed no more than once a month. Google Nearline storage is priced at .01 cents per gigabyte per month.

Amazaon S3 Pricing

Amazon S3 Pricing

Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) is used by major enterprises like Netflix, Pinterest and Reddit.

AmazonS3 costs about $0.055/GB per month if you retain over 5,000TB on Amazon’s cloud (the price goes up to $0.095/GB per month for 1TB or less of storage). If the data you’re interested in storing isn’t mission-critical, Amazon’s Reduced Redundancy Storage (RRS) offering lowers the price to $0.037/GB per month. This is generally for non-duplicated, non-HA data.

You can choose to store your data in one of several geographic regions; the obvious benefit is reducing your latency by picking a region close to home, or your customers, but from a disaster recovery standpoint, selecting a remote region makes sense, too.

Everything you store with Amazon S3 is accessible via the web, and you can use the Amazon S3 Encryption Client to lock down data before it leaves your company. Amazon has impressive resources for developers, which should help your staff hit the ground running.

Amazon also has a well-defined service level agreement (SLA) in place, and if you have any doubts over the service’s resilience, consider that Amazon itself runs it’s own businesses on S3.

Datrium DVX availability and list price

Excerpt

Datrium, the leader in server powered storage, today announced the general availability of Datrium DVX. The DVX is the first storage system to split server-powered speed from appliance-based durable capacity, dramatically simplifying storage performance management. A 32-host DVX with the new NetShelf can reach up to 1 million IOPS, using data-reduced commodity server flash capacity, at a radically lower price than array flash.

Datrium Performance Scaling

DVX Hyperdriver software leverages VM servers with SSDs for performance. Total bandwidth can be up to 30k IOPS per host using current Haswell 2-socket servers. Performance achieved depends on the specific server CPU and SSDs selected by the administrator. In the current release, the DVX supports up to 32 hosts, for an aggregate 1M IOPS. NetShelf D12X4 write bandwidth across a 10Gb link is up to 800 MB/sec., similar to a 12 Gb SAS-attached drive shelf.

DVX data service functions also run on DVX hosts, so compute can scale for current features like always-on deduplication and compression, VM clone offloads and NetShelf RAID6.

Datrium Dynamic Storage for VMware

With a DVX system, Enterprises can manage storage the way they manage VMs. Each VM and virtual disk can be managed discretely; there are no SAN artifacts to deal with, such as LUNs or zones, host reads are local and writes do not interrupt other hosts. If performance SLAs decay for any reason on any host, simply use standard vMotion to move a workload to a host with more resource headroom, just as one would for CPU or RAM. To upgrade the system’s performance, there is no need to upgrade the NetShelf; just upgrade servers and SSDs from your favorite server vendor. The DVX supports vSphere 5.5 and 6.0. It is on the VMware VCG for NAS.

Datrium Pricing and Availability

Datrium DVX is available immediately in the US from Datrium resellers. International sales will begin in the second half of 2016.

The DVX list price is $125,000. This includes a NetShelf D12X4 appliance and unlimited licenses for DVX Hyperdriver software on vSphere hosts. The NetShelf D12X4 appliance comes with 48 TB raw, or 60TB – 180TB effective capacity at common deduplication and compression rates for Enterprise data (2x-6x). Servers and SSDs must be purchased and supported independently.
